Downtown PHX Art Pioneer Pete Petrisko Celebrates 35 Years
Pete Petrisko might be the “Most Phoenix Artist” that PHX has ever produced, consistently re-inventing himself creatively across mediums over the decades, similar to what City of Phoenix has done with its own image and makeover of downtown during that same period.
He might be, except that he doesn’t self-identify as an “Artist”, preferring the term Cultural Worker instead.
Petrisko often employs ephemeral art forms, echoing the all too common nature of Phoenix itself.
A two-time downtown artspace owner, sound artist, storyteller, visual artist, experimental musician/filmmaker, arts community-builder, stage performer, street artist, writer, artivist, and the list goes on… as noted in his widely varied Cultural Works Bio, which you can read (in full with links to news stories) here:  tinyurl.com/Petrisko35yearsphxart
Petrisko got his start in the local arts as part of a two-person exhibit at a Midtown PHX live/work artspace, Eleven East Ashland, in the Fall of 1987. His medium was photography.
His 35th Anniversary exhibition circles back to his roots, serving as a select overview of 2D visual works, from 1987 to today. It features an eclectic mix of photography, digital collage, and other mediums on canvas, all on view in October 2022 at The Lost Leaf.
